Como fisioterapeutas llegan a nosotros pacientes con s\u00edntomas de lo m\u00e1s variado. El abanico de nuestro trabajo es muy amplio y ello nos obliga a tener que estar muy atento a signos que nos puedan llevar a pensar que debemos derivar al paciente a otros profesionales. Muchas veces la gente no sabe que podemos ayudarles con m\u00faltiples problemas, pero algunas otras tambi\u00e9n hay un exceso de confianza en la fisioterapia, hasta el punto de que para cualquier situaci\u00f3n se acuda a este servicio. Y as\u00ed como en otro momento habl\u00e9 de la importancia de detectar una trombosis venosa profunda<\/a>, hablando con odont\u00f3logos me di cuenta tambi\u00e9n de la importancia de conocer el S\u00edndrome de Eagle para tenerlo en cuenta en, por ejemplo, esas cervicalgias frecuentes, que no se solucionan a pesar de variados tratamientos. Quiero que se tome con cuidado lo que digo, en el sentido de que no pensemos que ahora cualquiera puede padecer este problema<\/strong>, ni mucho menos, es un s\u00edndrome muy poco frecuente<\/strong> pero que debemos tener en nuestra mente \u201cpor si acaso\u201d \u201cpor si alguna vez resulta que era esto\u201d, dado que es un s\u00edndrome dif\u00edcil de reconocer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00bfY qu\u00e9 es el S\u00edndrome de Eagle? <\/span><\/h2>\n

Es la calcificaci\u00f3n del ligamento estilohiodeo<\/strong>, el cual es un ligamento que va desde la ap\u00f3fisis estiloides en la base del cr\u00e1neo hasta el hueso hioides en el cuello.<\/span><\/p>\n

Imaginaos la importancia de esta uni\u00f3n, desde la base del cr\u00e1neo hasta un hueso tan incre\u00edble y peculiar como es el hioides y pensad en todas las conexiones a partir de ah\u00ed que pueden surgir.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00bfY por qu\u00e9 necesitamos los fisioterapeutas conocerlo? Porque, como mencion\u00e9 antes, por el tipo de s\u00edntomas que provoca es f\u00e1cil que, precisamente, los pacientes hayan acudido a nosotros.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sus s\u00edntomas pueden ser:<\/span><\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Limitaci\u00f3n de los movimientos del cuello.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Ruido a nivel de la articulaci\u00f3n temporomandibular.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. V\u00e9rtigo y s\u00edncope transitorio (habr\u00e1 que prestar especial atenci\u00f3n con determinadas maniobras de fisioterapia).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Dolor en la regi\u00f3n de las am\u00edgdalas que irradia a veces a la zona carot\u00eddea y lar\u00edngea.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Dolor de cabeza, dolor de o\u00eddo, tinitus, sensaci\u00f3n de o\u00eddo \u00abtapado\u00bb <\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Excesiva producci\u00f3n de saliva (sialorrea), disfon\u00eda, disfagia<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Sensaci\u00f3n de cuerpo extra\u00f1o en la parte posterior de la boca, que obliga al paciente a tragar con frecuencia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    S\u00edntomas muy generales que pueden estar provocados por muchas otras razones que desde la fisioterapia muchas veces logramos tratar adecuadamente. Pero si finalmente hay algo \u201cque no nos cuadra\u201d, algo \u201cque no hay manera de resolver\u201d. Siempre podremos plantearnos pensar en este s\u00edndrome (aunque insisto, es muy poco frecuente). En ese momento deberemos derivar, pues las pruebas para detectarlo son sencillas: radiograf\u00edas espec\u00edficas y TAC; y la \u00fanica soluci\u00f3n actualmente parece ser la cirug\u00eda para eliminar el ligamento osificado.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Muchas veces el mejor tratamiento es saber derivar a los profesionales adecuados. Nuestro conocimiento y a veces intuici\u00f3n, habr\u00e1 sido la mejor manera de ayudar en los problemas del paciente.
